Raw Food Diet Rules

Raw food diets purify your digestive system, give you energy and may help some physical ailments. Although it might be intimidating to try preparing your food in such a radically different manner, the basic tenets of raw food are very simple.

Invest in a Few Important Kitchen Tools

The most nutritious foods that can be eaten raw are seeds, nuts, seed and nut oils, most vegetables and fruit.A salad is raw food (if it doesn't have animal products like cheese or ranch dressing), but surviving on salad alone is a sure way to grow hungry and bored. To truly enjoy raw food, invest in some equipment that will help you manipulate shape and texture: a juicer, a dehydrator, a sprouter and a food processor. You can use the juicer to make vegetable or fruit juices; the dehydrator to dry seed and almond pastes into bread; the sprouter to soak grains, nuts and beans; and the food processor to make soups, sauces and flavorful spreads.

Plan a Menu and Prepare Some Food Ahead of Time

The nature of some raw foods makes it necessary to begin preparation well in advance of a meal. For example, it takes at least a day to sprout grains and nuts. Set them in clean water that contains no chemicals, including fluoride. You can eat them when the germinated sprout is still inside the nut, or wait until it's further along and showing. Change the water at least once a day. You can eat nuts raw, but you only get the full nutritional value when you begin the germination process with water. You can do this with almost any seed.

There are many raw food recipes online. There are raw versions of spaghetti (using thinly processed zucchini) as well as tacos (dehydrated seed paste for the shell). Basically, remember to plan at least three days ahead so you have a sufficient amount of sprouted items, dehydrated items and the proper produce. Always keep sea salt, cold-pressed olive oil and almonds on hand-- these are common ingredients. Think of your favorite foods, then do a search for raw versions.

Prepare for Your Body to React

When you begin a diet of raw food, be aware that it cleanses your system. Years of accumulated junk may start to move out of your body, and this is not fun. It will probably not be extreme, but you may feel achy and tired, and you may make more trips to the bathroom than you normally do. This is normal and will pass quickly.

The beauty of eating this way is that there are no restrictions on the amount or variety of food, only the nature of it. It is much closer to the way our bodies were designed to eat than what commonly passes for a normal diet. Try it for one month and see the how different you feel.
