The 48 hour liquid diet has been boasted as a way to lose weight in a very quick time. For two days the participant consumes nothing but liquid and should lose both weight and wastes from processed foods and protein that the body could not process. Liquid diets were given to people who had undergone certain surgeries and could not consume food, other than in the liquid form. Other people started using it as a diet fad, a way to lose weight quickly. On the 48 hour liquid diet, the dieter only takes in liquids. The idea is that the liquids interrupts the food consumption, cleansing the body of any pollutants and toxins, while decreasing the caloric intake and thus losing a lot of weight.
There are a few different 48 hour liquid diets out there. They all boil down to drinking a formula of fruit juice, or a powder that you mix with water, about four times a day. This liquid is taken throughout the day, with a strict adherence to not eating any solid food. You are allowed to drink water, tea, and clear broth. Generally you are not allowed any sugars. You repeat the procedure again the next day.
Even for such a short span of 48 hours you should consult your doctor before doing this diet because it can affect many people with certain conditions. This should not be undergone by people with diabetes, are pregnant or breastfeeding, because the lack of nutrients can badly damage your body, especially for people with diabetes who need to monitor their sugar intake. The 48 hour liquid diet can cause dizziness, tiredness, and not having the vitamins and nutrients may cause damage to your vital organs. The liquid diet will work because you have stopped all solid foods and have lessened your caloric intake, however, most of the weight lost is water weight which you will gain back when you return to eating solid foods.
If you plan on doing the 48 hour liquid diet you will lose weight, and you can do this as long as you know that you will gain that weight again if you continue to return to your previous eating lifestyle. Remember to adhere to the plan and do not do the diet haphazardly because you will not get the results you were looking for. This is a good way to lose weight quickly if you need a boost, or to get rid of the excess animal proteins and processed foods that your body could not eliminate on its own.
